Consisting of two stamps, this set is the ninth of a second series of New Year's Greeting Postage Stamps released by this Directorate. 1989 is the Year of the Snake, according to the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. The abstract drawing, round in form to symbolize union and harmony, depicts a snake. The souvenir sheet (78×102 mm.) is composed of two sets of the new stamps.
