Wang Meng (1308-1385 A.D.), a native of Wuhsing, Chekiang Province, wrote poetry and essays, but is particularly known for his paintings. Wang's style of painting represents a transition from the Yuan to the Ming Dynasty, not only affecting the painting style of Ming and Ching Dynasties, but also showing the mysterious and imaginary space which people today are pursuing. The Scenic Dwellings At Chu-ch'u, 42.5 cm in width and 68.7 cm in length, depicts the landscape and scenery at Chu-ch'u (the ancient name for Lake Tai). The penetrating yet simple brushwork can be said to be both mature yet raw, and extremely subtle yet apparently awkward, making this work a masterpiece.
