To celebrate the diverse culture of Taiwan and encourage people of different ethnic backgrounds and areas to appreciate each other's culture, the Directorate has chosen four children's rhymes for a set of four "Children's Folk Rhymes Postage Stamps" (Issue of 2001), which is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2001. The set is composed of the following four stamps: "Little Ball" (Mandarin), "Point to the Water Vat" (Taiwanese), "Pangolin" (Ami) and "Shake and Stamp" (Hakka). Two will have denominations of NT$5.00, and the others denominations of NT$12.00 and NT$25.00. China Color Printing Co., Inc. will handle the color deep-etch offset printing.
This Directorate has previously issued two sets of four "Children's Folk Rhymes" stamps in 1998 and 1999, which featured animal rhymes and lullabies. Apart from their popularity with kids, these stamps also elicited many happy childhood memories among adults. The new set of stamps features rhymes sung when children are playing games. Some use rhyme in a fun way to coordinate with the rhythm of the games. Some describe stories with movements to match. Some are aimed at teasing playmates, using exaggerated mimicry for amusing effect. These rhymes encourage kids to run around and jump, work their bodies, and enjoy themselves while at play, as well as to hone their senses of rhythm and coordination and their abilities to react and respond quickly. Helping to foster good social interaction, these rhymes get kids to learn while they play.
